FLIGHT WAYS / THE COLOR QUESTION
A project by William Ruiz Morales, produced by Ouow Studio
A hundred years after his great-grandfather arrived in New York and wrote one of the hemisphere’s earliest studies on race, William Ruiz Morales set out to understand what that history costs a family and found migration, music, and a silence left by the Cuban Revolution that three generations carried without a name.

Flight Ways
A short documentary following William’s process of researching Bernardo Ruiz Suárez’s life and working toward the bilingual republication of his 1922 book. The research opens a family archive and a century of silence about political divide, about a grandfather’s choice that no one ever explained, about what ideology does to the people caught between positions.
Told in first person, in English and Spanish. In production 2026.

La cuestión del color en las dos Américas / The Color Question in the Two Americas: Bilingual Edition
This publication returns Bernardo’s book to Spanish for the first time. The original manuscript is lost. This is a reconstruction, a translation of a translation, giving the text back the language in which it was first thought. The book making the same journey the family made.

Crowdfunding campaign launching May 2026.
